Alebiosu Christopher Olutayo, FWACP. Professor of Medicine, Consultant Physician.
ALEBIOSU Christopher Olutayo BSc, MBChB, FWACP is a fellow of the West African Postgraduate Medical College and a Professor of Medicine at the Osun State University, Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria. He doubles as a Consultant Physician to the Teaching Hospital arm of the University.
From a humble beginning, through one of his research publications, the Olabisi Onabanjo University was awarded the Nigerian University Commission Award for indigenous research in 2004. He also won competitive training fellowship awards including:
1 World Diabetes Federation Fellowship / International Diabetes Federation Fellowship Award 2003 (Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Capetown, Republic of South Africa);
2 International Society of Peritoneal dialysis Fellowship Training (2005) and
3 IDF-BRIDGES Translational Research Grants Course, Ghana, 2008.
He distinguished himself in the first Nigerian Study on Clinico-pathological Study of Diabetic Nephropathy based on renal biopsy.
He is the Principal Investigator of the World Diabetes Foundation sponsored SIDCAIN Projects in Nigeria (WDF08-321 & WDF 10-515): the Strategies for Improving Diabetes Care In Ogun and Oyo states, Nigeria. He is also the Principal Investigator of a Research Grant Project awarded by Competitive Agricultural Research Grant Scheme (CARGS) of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) – ARCN/CARGS/01/S.5/I/131 (Assessment of the efficacy of flavanol – rich cocoa powder intake in the management of malaria, diabetes and hypertension), in collaboration with the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria.
He is the founding Director, Olabisi Onabanjo Diabetes Center (2007-2010 Feb). He is a co-editor of, and contributor to the ‘Simplified complete handbook on diabetes’ published locally in 2007. He also co-authored a ‘Diabetes info booklet’ same year.
He is currently a peer reviewer to over 15 local and international medical journals and currently an executive member of the Nephrology Association of Nigeria. He has over 35 scientific publications to his credit, mainly in the field of diabetic nephropathy, hypertension and nephrology. He has attended numerous scientific conferences both within and outside Nigeria. He was a co-organizer of the 2nd International conference on Drug Discovery and Therapy in Dubai (Feb 1st – 4th, 2010). He was registered with the Health professional Council of Republic of South Africa.
Prof. Alebiosu Christopher Olutayo is married with children.
