Putting the spotlight on diabetes and ncds in nigeria

The fourth in the series of SIDCAIN Conference holding at the Main Auditorium of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife will hold between March 5 – 7,2014.

The overall objective of the SIDCAIN Group is prevention of diabetes through education, as well as to improve the overall management of diabetes mellitus and hypertension.  The 2014 OAU Conference is built upon the overwhelming success of the three previous conferences that attracted over 300 delegates from many Universities, Industries,Companies and NGOs within and outside the country.

The first conference was held in February 2010 at the Paul Hendrichse Auditorium of the University College Hospital, Ibadan.  It was tagged HIV and Diabetes – Two Epidemics ona collision course?  The second conference was hosted by the Osun State University and dedicated to the prevention and management of diabetes foot.  This was organized incollaboration with TWAS, a body based in Italy.  The third conference took place at theOlabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu; tagged ‘Putting the spotlight ondiabetes and NCDs in Nigeria’, with a sub-theme: Promoting best practices in DiabeteCare– Changing lives, changing destiny.

The three conferences hosted internationalparticipants.The organizer aims to hold the 4th  conference in the city known as the cradle of theYorubas, Ile-Ife with a theme: ‘Towards better Diabetes Prevention and Control’ and a sub-theme: DREAMS come True!  The acronym DREAMS represents the ideals summarized in an anti-diabetes program with the letter D standing for ‘Diagnosis and Care’, R for ‘Research for Cure’, E for ‘Evidence for Optimum Care’, A for the ‘Alliance for Diabetes’, M for ‘Mentoring Programs for Prevention’, and S for ‘Stop DM’.

All abstracts must be received by February 9, 2014.

Early registration closes February 15, 2014.
