Here’s the latest SEC sports news from The Associated Press

UNDATED (AP) – The Alabama Crimson Tide will be playing a football game Saturday, which means…well, absolutely nothing. Don’t be cruel. That’s how things work in Tuscaloosa. The SEC championship is out of reach. All hopes of a place in the College Football Playoffs are gone. That means Bama has no chance of winning his seventh national title since Nick Saban arrived. Which, of course, means the season for the tide is practically over. It’s been a dozen years since Alabama has been at this location and played a regular season game with no potential impact on the national championship race.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Brandon Miller continued a dominant freshman campaign with 28 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a block in No. 18 Alabama’s 104-62 win over Jacksonville State. Miller shot 9 to 12 from the floor and made seven of his nine 3-point attempts while playing just 25 minutes. Mark Sears and Nimari Burnett each scored 18 points for Alabama. Jacksonville State was led by Amanze Ngumezi and Juwan Perdue with 13 points each.

CHARLESTON, SC (AP) — Foster Loyer had 18 points and Sam Mennenga had 15 and Davidson capitalized on a 10-2 run in the second half to beat South Carolina 69-60. The Gamecocks led 29-25 at halftime, but after the break, Connor Kochera put up a layup and followed with a 3-pointer to put Davidson ahead 42-38, and the Wildcats stayed ahead for the rest of the game. The Wildcats held off South Carolina’s Chico Carter Jr., who missed to tie his career with 26 points in 9-for-14 shooting, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Top-ranked Georgia and Kentucky were picked to go 1-2 in the SEC East. They play in different directions on Saturday. The Bulldogs have clinched another division title and are looking to end a second straight unbeaten season in league play. The Wildcats fell off the card after a 4-0 start and finished 7th, losing four of six. Georgia is targeting a 13th straight win over Kentucky and leading the SEC in nearly every statistical category. And coach Kirby Smart insists his team won’t look past the Wildcats in the SEC title game.

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) — Tennessee receiver Jalin Hyatt is poised to host a show at a hometown stadium he knows very well. Hyatt played at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, about 20 miles from the South Carolina campus. Hyatt scored three touchdowns to win the 2019 high school state championship at South Carolina Stadium. Hyatt and the fifth-place volunteers will visit South Carolina on Saturday night. Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker said Hyatt is playing with a fire and is excited for his return home.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Sixth-ranked LSU’s final home game will be more than just a traditional seniors’ celebration. It’s also an opportunity for fans at Tiger Stadium to honor the remarkable success story that LSU has become during coach Brian Kelly’s first season at Baton Rouge. LSU is back in the Southeastern Conference elite after winning the Western Division. But the Tigers can’t afford a loss to UAB on Saturday and still expect to be taken seriously as a contender for the four-team college football playoffs. The Blazers are one of only two non-conference teams to win at Tiger Stadium since 2000.

CONWAY, SC (AP) — KJ Simpson had career highs of 30 points and six steals and Colorado beat No. 24 Texas A&M 103-75 at the Myrtle Beach Invitational. It was the second-ranked opponent Colorado has beaten in five days after beating then-No. 11 Tennessee 78-66 on Sunday. Simpson’s sixth steal resulted in a fast break dunk with 1:18 left. He was substituted after making 11 of 17 shots, including four 3-pointers, and grabbing seven rebounds. Colorado made just six 3-pointers on 25 tries in its opening loss to UMass on Thursday. But the Buffaloes responded with 16 of 32 from long range against Texas A&M, with five marks from Ethan Wright.

OXFORD, Mississippi (AP) — Matthew Murrell scored 16 points, Myles Burns added 13 and Mississippi held off UT Martin for a 72-68 win. KK Curry scored four points during a 12-4 run that drew UT Martin to 70-68 with 16 seconds left. TJ Caldwell took two free throws with 10 seconds left to seal it for Ole Miss (4-0). Parker Stewart scored 13 points to lead UT Martin (2-3). Curry finished with 12 points and Desmond Williams and Chris Nix had 10 each.
