The eyes of the sporting world are on Qatar as the World Cup begins; The USA are in Group B along with Iran, Wales and England.
When the US men’s national team takes the field, a couple of Garden State players might see time (we won’t know if either starts until the games start). The USA play Wales in their first game.
Matt Turner, one of the team’s goalies, hails from Park Ridge. Matt attended St. Joe’s High School where he started playing soccer to keep in shape for his main interests, baseball and basketball. When his freshman team’s goalie got injured, Matt volunteered to replace him and it turned out he was pretty good.
He then played collegially at Fairfield University in Connecticut; After graduating, he signed as a free agent with Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution and played for them from 20016 to 2022.
Turner made his debut with the USA men’s national team in 2021 and was named “Best Goalkeeper” at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, starting all six games.
He currently plays for Arsenal in the prestigious Premier League in England.
The other Jersey-born player is Brenden Aaronson from Medford, a midfielder/winger. He has been called “one of the crown jewels of the newest generation of USMNT players”.
He is known as “Medford Messi”; That’s a big name to live up to.
Brenden attended Shawnee HS for a year before enrolling at the Philadelphia Union’s YSC Academy, where he graduated from high school. He continued playing for Union after turning professional in 2019-2020.
After playing a year in Austria, Brenden signed for Leeds earlier this year, also in England’s prestigious Premier League.

Everything costs more these days—and living in New Jersey is certainly no exception.

Average single family home prices have reached $500,000+ in nine counties in North and Central Jersey.
All but two counties have seen homes cost more than list price on average this year.
