FORT WORTH, Texas (November 20, 2022) – The University of South Florida women’s basketball team received 21 points Elena Tsineke11 points and 10 rebounds out Karl Brito and 10 points down Dulcy Fankam Menjiadeu when the TCU bulls lost 66:59 at the Maggie Dixon Classic in the Schollmaier Arena. The win is South Florida’s fifth straight win to start the season while the Horned Frogs are tied 2-2.

After tying with the Horned Frogs at 27-45 at halftime and holding a slight four-point lead at 49-45 by the end of the third quarter, the Bulls opened the game in the fourth quarter and extended their lead to ace no fewer than 13 points, 58-45, midway through the final stanza on Fankam Mendjiadeu’s second of two consecutive layups.

However, TCU fought back and cut the South Florida lead to two points, 58-56, with just over a minute remaining in the contest. That was as close as the Horned Frogs did as the Bulls ended the game on an 8-3 run.

South Florida recorded its 10thth 20-win season during the 2021-22 season while playing in his sixth American Athletic Conference championship game in his nine years in the conference. Reached the cops her highest national finish of the season when she checked in 13th in the Associated Press Top 25 poll on November 30, and advanced to her seventh NCAA tournament appearance in the past nine years.

USF has made 17 postseason tournament appearances and has had eight NCAA tournament berths as a head coach Jose Fernandez22 seasons. Fernandez, the most successful coach of all time in program history, has led USF to 10 seasons with 20 wins, two WNIT Final Four appearances and the 2009 WNIT Championship, and won over 400 career games. Fernandez was named a finalist for the WBCA and a semi-finalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year Awards. He was also named the 2021 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year at the end of the 2020-21 season.

In 2021-22, the Bulls had three players recognized for impressive playing times by The American, including Elena Tsineke (All-Conference First Team), Bethy Mununga (All-Conference Second Team) and Dulcy Fankam Menjiadeu (All-Conference Second Team).

In addition, Tsineke and Mununga were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team.
