New Mexico was named as one of Lonely Planet’s 30 must-visit destinations in 2023

The Land of Enchantment is one of only three US destinations to make the prestigious list

SANTA FE – Global travel authority Lonely Planet recently unveiled its picks of top destinations from around the world to visit in 2023, naming New Mexico as a standout destination in the learning category.

New Mexico was one of three US travel destinations to receive the prestigious Best in Travel for 2023 award. Alaska and Boise, Idaho were also named Best in Travel 2023 by Lonely Planet.

“With stunning scenery at every vantage point and rich, multicultural history around every corner, there’s no doubt why the Land of Enchantment is a must-visit,” he said Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. “From culture to history to art, there is no shortage of visual delights for visitors to our beautiful state. And don’t forget our chilli – the best in the world! New Mexico is proud to welcome visitors from around the world to experience the unique wonder of the Land of Enchantment.”

For its 18th iteration of the Best when travelling Collection, Lonely Planet reimagined the list around five fundamental aspects of travel: Eat, Travel, Connect, Learn, and Relax. That Feature on New Mexico centers around the narrative and perspectives of ShanDien Sonwai LaRance, hoop dancer and member of the Ohkay Owingeh pueblo. New Mexico has been recognized specifically for its culture, arts and country, making the Land of Enchantment a must-visit in 2023.

Selections for Lonely Planet’s 2023 Best in Travel list are made by a community of Lonely Planet employees, authors, bloggers, content creators and publishing partners who submit nominations for consideration. A panel of travel experts then selects the list of finalists, considering recency, unique experiences, “wow” factors and commitments to sustainability, community and diversity during the judging process.
