Butler Lions plan an annual Christmas tree sale
The annual Christmas tree sale, sponsored by the Butler Lions Club, begins Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church Picnic Hut, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler.
The opening times are on Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The sales times are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. while stocks last.

Voting in the Harrison Gingerbread House Contest continues
The Harrison Township Recreation Board sponsors a gingerbread house contest for township residents.
Members of the community can vote for their favorite house by making a donation and the three best entries will be awarded prizes.
The houses will be on display until December 3rd and the winners will be announced on December 3rd at 1pm.
Tree lights to open the holiday season in Vandergrift
The Vandergrift Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place in the borough’s downtown area on Friday.
Starting at 5:00 p.m., Santa Claus will be driving through the city in a fire engine and handing out sweets to the children. At 7:00 p.m., everyone gathers around the tree on Grant and Farragut Avenues for the tree lighting.
There’s music, free photos with Santa, cookies and cocoa at Vandergrift Market, 143 Grant Ave. Vendors will be open at the market from 4pm to 9pm. The event is sponsored by the Vandergrift Improvement Program.
Today: The Creative Writing Club at the Apollo Memorial Library, 219 N. Pennsylvania Ave., meets at the library at 5 p.m. Membership is open to writers aged 13 and over. Details: 724-478-4214.

Wednesday: Al-Anon meets at 8 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 847 10th Ave. The group provides help and hope for families and friends of alcoholics.
Dec 6: Our Lady Queen of Peace is selling tickets for a Saint Nicholas Day raffle. The winning numbers are the first Pennsylvania Daily Pick 3 numbers drawn on December 6th at 12pm and 7pm. Winners will each receive $1,000, a $100 gift certificate to Apollo’s Central Restaurant and a $100 gift certificate to Naser Groceries in Oklahoma Borough. Cost: $10, includes two numbers. Monday and Wednesday: The Department of Secondhand Clothing at the Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St. is open Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All items are free, but donations are accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of fall and winter clothing, shoes and boots are welcome. Donations must be washed and free of pet hair. Wednesday: The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank is open from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights.
